SYDNEY Dawuane Smoot Jaguars Jersey , Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- The world famous Sydney Harbor Bridge will light up with inspirational tweets from members of the public in one of the biggest New Year Eve spectaculars ever planned in Australia, organizers said on Wednesday.

The special public messages, which will reveal how Sydney has been an inspiration to people, will cover the bridge on New Year's Eve before the city's famous fireworks light up the night-time sky.

The tweets will appear live on the Sydney Harbor Bridge pylons throughout the night, and will be broadcast around Australia and the world in coverage of the first major city to ring in the New Year.

The event is organized by Australian group, Imagination, which has been contracted to host New Year celebrations since 2010, and company director Heath Campanaro said the tweets were just one part of the major event.

He said this year's 7.2 million Australian dollar (6 million U. S dollar) New Year Eve celebrations will feature three firework spectaculars -- one at 9 p.m., another at 10:40 p.m. and the major event at midnight.

More than seven tonnes of fireworks -- including 11,000 shells, 25,000 shooting comets, and more than 100,000 individual pyrotechnic affects -- will be launched from the Sydney Harbor Bridge, the Sydney Opera House, and barges on Sydney harbor.

As in previous years the crowning glory will be the top-secret Sydney Harbour Bridge effect. This will form the centerpiece of the fireworks displays, featuring 13 kilometers of LED rope light and reaching 12 stories high.

"Sydney New Year's Eve is without a doubt our most famous creative achievement. It gives our entire team such a thrill to be able to influence such an iconic event, and I'm confident that together with the City of Sydney we can continue to cement Sydney' s position as the number one New Year's Eve event in the world," Campanaro said.

ENTEBBE, Uganda, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Wendy Maltinsky is a birder from the United Kingdom. Her passion for birds stems from her family back in Scotland. They have moved around the world in search for unique bird species.

Maltinsky is in Uganda to attend the first ever African Birding Expo that has attracted over 100 birders from Europe and the United States.

The event, which opened on Friday, is held here 40km south of the capital Kampala, on the shores of Lake Victoria.

Uganda is using the expo to showcase that it is a birding paradise.

The country is endowed with over 1,000 bird species that account for 10 percent of the globe's total bird species and 50 percent of Africa's bird species population.

All this is possible because of the richly diverse habitats from the scenic shores of Lake Victoria to the lush forests of the Albertine Rift and the banks of River Nile.

Uganda was declared Africa's Preferred Birding Destination in 2013 after Africa Bird Club voted two of its birding sites among the top 10 birders' destinations on the continent.

"The birds here are very brightly colored, we do have some of those in the United Kingdom but not as much as here," Maltinsky told Xinhua in an interview.

Laura Kammermeier, a travel writer from New York, described her birding experience in Uganda as magical.

"They (birds) are so many, they have beautiful shapes and colours. They are really exciting to see and easy to find," she said.

Nate Swick of the American Birding Association urged Uganda to fully exploit the country's potential.

Uganda Tourism Board, a government agency charged with promoting tourism, argues that birding is one of the most important tourist activities in the world, garnering chunks of money for countries that have given it priority.

The agency argued that the country now needs to market birding to reap from the tourist attraction.

Tourism now ranks as Uganda's top foreign exchange earner, contributing over 23 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product. Enditem

UNITED NATIONS, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Financing for development is the key to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the guideline to end poverty in the world by 2030, the BRICS told a high-level UN meeting here on Tuesday.

The statement came as Liu Jieyi, the Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations, was taking the floor at the UN meeting on the financing for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on behalf of the member countries of the BRICS, which groups Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

This is the first time for the bloc to air its views on important global issues since its establishment in 2006. China has earlier this year assumed the BRICS' presidency for the year of 2017.

"Financing for development is the key to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development," Liu said. "Assured and predicable financial flow is indispensable to the realization of sustainable development, particularly by developing countries."

The SDGs serve as the blueprint for global development efforts for the years running up to 2030.

Liu urged the the international community to take a strategic and long-term view of financing for development, and to actively advance international cooperation in this area at the national, regional and international levels.

All these efforts should be made based on renewed and enhanced global partnership for sustainable development, to "mobilize adequate resources for the realization of sustainable development by all countries, especially developing countries," he said.

"Economic globalization has suffered setbacks and we have witnessed the rise of inward-looking and protectionist tendencies in some countries' policies and the growth of 'anti-globalization' thinking," he noted.

"International cooperation for development is fa.
